What is mLayer

mLayer is a modular Layer 1 / Layer 2 blockchain specifically optimized for secure, privacy-centric, trustless, and incentivized real-time data communication that is crucial for real-world applications such as peer-to-peer (P2P) instant messaging, Gaming, the Internet of Things (IoT), Blockchain and Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Networks (DePIN). mLayer simplifies the creation of decentralized smart home networks, incentivized healthcare and fitness monitoring devices, connected vehicle and fleet tracking, remote monitoring and surveillance systems, energy, and more.

It empowers web2 and web3 developers to create cutting-edge distributed real-time applications that incentivizes both human and machine actively within the emerging Economy of Things. The ecosystem is driven by the mLayer Tokens, which are used to manage messaging and transaction costs and to provide incentives to Validators and Relay Builders who contribute to the network's stability and growth. Through this economic model, mLayer aims to cultivate a dynamic and rewarding environment for all its stakeholders.

The network is versatile, supporting multiple communication protocols, therefore simplifying its integration into existing web2 systems. mLayer offers a broad spectrum of functionalities tailored to the Web3, IoT, and DePIN ecosystems including smart chatbots (referred to as smartlets), privacy centric end-to-end encryption, mLRC20 token-gated communication channels, self-sovereign Account and Agent/Device IDs, gamification and reward systems and much more.

What makes mLayer different?

mLayer stands out because it is a blockchain technology optimized specifically for decentralized, secure, trustless, and incentivized real-time data communication based on a distributed logic clock promising unparalleled speed, cost-saving and scalability. It provides a comprehensive ecosystem that addresses the growing need for a scalable infrastructure to power autonomous systems and the economy of things. Our unique features, such as subnets, smartlets, mLRC20 token-gated channels, and self-sovereign IDs, cater specifically to developers looking to build decentralized physical network applications that require swift data exchange. mLayer's economic model further differentiates it by directly incentivizing network participants, fostering a vibrant and dynamic ecosystem.

Why build on mLayer?

Developers and businesses choose mLayer for its robust, and flexible infrastructure that simplifies the development of fully decentralized real-time applications. Existing blockchains are optimized for settlement rather than digital communication. This leads to a significant degree of centralization in DePINs which mLayer eliminates by applying distributed causal graphs at the communication layer. mLayer also offers specialized tools and features tailored to the needs of Web3, IoT, and DePIN ecosystems therefore empowering creators to innovate beyond the constraints of traditional systems. The incentive model of mLayer ensures that all participants, from developers to end-users and network supporters, are rewarded for their contributions, creating a mutually beneficial environment. Additionally, mLayer's versatility in supporting multiple communication protocols makes it an attractive platform for integrating with existing Web2 systems, thereby lowering the barrier to entry for developers and businesses transitioning to decentralized solutions. mLayer shines in several ways:

Flexible and highly programmable: Build dApps, Smart contracts and WASM Smartlets on mLayer’s decentralized network

Censorship Resistant: Both networks layers are fully decentralized, thus censorship proof

Secure: mLayer is based on provable Causal Graph backed by a battle tested Proof of stake network infrastructure utilizing tendermint consensus; and it is E2E encryption capable

Scalable: Built on a globally distributed network of nodes

Incentivized: Based on an economic model that rewards participants for their role

Components and Architecture

mLayer consists of two primary layers:

  • The messaging layer (L2) and;

  • The blockchain layer (L1)

The messaging layer is designed to scale infinitely while ensuring that the cost of message delivery remains minimal. It utilizes a provable logic clock based on causal event graphs. The (block)chain layer on the other hand is built on the Cosmos SDK and utilizes Tendermint BFT (Byzantine Fault Tolerance) for its consensus mechanism.
